The original place where baccarat’s origin is not clear. It is of common opinion, however, that it was invented in Italy in the 1400s. The game was known as ‘Baccara.’ The French spelling ‘Baccarat’ became more common. It was said that the game originated from Etruria in central Italy that is now known as Tuscany, Umbria, and Lazio. Legend has it that an Etruscan lady had to throw the die. Six or seven would cut her social life forever, eight of nine would make her a priestess. If she got anything lower than a six, the result would have her thrown in the sea. From this strange predicament, the game of baccarat originated.
Another theory states that Baccarat originated from Macau. It was a card game that sailors brought in with them from Asia.
Once it was introduced in France, it became a favorite game of king Charles VIII. Following the king’s lead, the game became a favorite pastime among the noblemen. Baccarat arrived in las Vegas in 1950. Its popularity did not take off immediately, and it had to be marketed as an exclusive game,’ not for everyone.’ It was played in VIP rooms. Its reputation for a VIP exclusive game turned the tide and made baccarat a popular game.
It is now available in both online and land-based casinos. You can have a look at how to play baccarat.
Rules And Variations

Also known as Punto Banco. This type of baccarat is most common in Australia, Canada, and the United States. In the game, the players have to bet on which of the two hands,’ the player’ or ‘the banker,’ will end up having a number closest to nine. One can also bet on a tie. after the bets have been made, the cards are shuffled and placed in a box called the shoe. The box is passed among the players in a counterclockwise direction. The player who holds the shoe represents the banker. There are, however, not bound to bet on the banker’s hand. Four cards are dealt with and placed face down. Two cards go to the player who’s bet was the highest on the player’s hand, and two cards go to the banker. Once the player looks at the cards, they pass them on to the dealer, and the value of the hand is announced. The same is done with the banker’s cards.
The Chemmy or Chemin de Fer
It is also known as the railway in French. This is a fast-paced game. One player assumes the ‘Bankers role’ and the others are ‘punters.’
These roles are rotated counter-clockwise. The banker bets the sum that they are willing to risk when the round begins. The players can now make their own bets or,’ go bank.’ This means betting against the whole bank. Once the wagers are made, the players in common and the other to go to the banker are held. If either party comes up with an eight or nine, the value it’s declared at once. If not, the player’s spokesperson decides whether to take the third card that is dealt face-up, similarly does the banker. Both hands are then disclosed. If the banker’s hand wins, his position does not change. If he, however, loses, the position passes over to the next player.
In this game, the banker remains in the same position until all the three packs of cards shuffled together are dealt with. When the players have made their bets, one card is dealt with the player on the banker’s left and three to the player on the banker’s right, and ultimately to the banker. The hands that have a value of 8 or 9 are declared at once. If none is present, the banker and the players can accept or refuse one more card. This is before they show and compare all the hands.
Strategies For Playing Baccarat
1.Never make the tie bet
Baccarat generally has a low house edge on two-thirds of its bets. (Two out of three). The three-bets are on the banker, player, and tie. The player has a house edge of 1.24%, and the banker has one of 1.06%. Your goal is to lose 1.06 units for every 100 units bet on banker and 1.24 units for every 100 bets on the player.
The tie comes in with a house edge of around 14.4 %. This means that you lose 14.4 units for every 100 units wagered.
2. The banker is definitely the best bet
Make your first bet on the banker. The banker wins over 50% of the time. To give the player an edge on that bet, each win has a 5 percent commission taken from it.
3. Keep going with the banker until it loses
If the banker goes on a streak from your first bet, it is wise to bet on the banker. A streak, however, is not an indication that it will hold throughout the game. it should not be taken to face value. (be mindful of your betting amounts) You face a house edge on every wager made, and you will not be able to bet your way out of such an edge.
4. After a banker’s loss, wait for one decision
If the cards are dealt, and you’ve lost on the banker’s bet, and the player wins, be patient not to jump in with another bet. This is a baccarat rule Wait on the next decision and bet on it. It is important to note that the player or the banker loses if the tie is the decision.
5.Tie bets do not count
This is a recommended style to play baccarat, where all tie bets are invisible. They count not. They act as a pause in the action. If the pattern goes banker, banker, tie, you treat the tie as invisible and continue to bet Banker.
6. Ride on the player bet until it’s a loss
In the game between the player and banker, f the player loses to the banker; you won’t wait out the next decision. You immediately hope on the banker. When the banker wins, you bet on it immediately. If the banker loses, however, follow rule number 4.
7. Learn the rules that govern the third card of the banker
If the player draws no new cards or stands pat, the banker will draw with a hand total of 0-5 and stays pat with a hand total of 6 or 7. Every other hand is dependent on the third card the player draws.
- if the player’s third card is a 10, 9, face-card or Ace, the Banker draws then he has a 0 -3 and stays with the 4-7
- if the players that card is an 8, the banker will draw when he has a 0-2, and then stays with a 3-7
- If the players that card is 6 or 7, the banker will draw when he has 0-6 and stays with a 7
- If the player’s third card is 4 or 5, the banker will draw when he has a 0-5 and stays with a 6 or 7
- If the player’s third card is 2 or 3, the banker will draw when he has a 0-4 and will stay with a 5 to 7
